Adventure Physical Education

Climbing Walls

Picture
There is no better test of physical strength than having students scale a climbing wall (traversing walls) in physical education class.  The sport of rock climbing grew 57% between the years of 1998 and 2008.  With childhood obsesity rates at an all time high, climbing walls give physical education teachers the ability to engage students of all ages, sizes, and abilities.  The benefits received by participating in rock walls greatly outweigh the initial cost of installing rock wall in education systems.  Students will see: increased strength in the arms, legs, and core, increased flexibility, balance, and motor skills, developed camradery among participants, and increased confidence and self determination.
